A New Era Begins

Ok, so it's been a rather lengthy period since out last update of any sort, and for this we can only apologise, but we are still alive and we're still going, but like most of the major addons teams our there; most of the work has been going on behind the scenes. The only visible clue would be the introduction of our new logo to bring in the start of this new era. Since september last year, a hell of a lot has happened in the world of OFP and ARMA and it would be prudent for me to shed some light on how this has affected UKF to date.

We should all know by now that ARMA has been finally released and is in the process of being patched into something far more stable and workable, and we are eagerly awaiting the tools so that we can start begining to release addons as soon as we can. Since the 'end' of our Flashpoint era, we have been slowly yet steadily been coverting or starting afresh on many of our most popular projects, as well as tinkering with what is possible in the new engine. This will of course all take time, but I hope to bring you some screenshots of the new kit some time soon, including the new Land Rovers, CVRTs and Warrior to name but a few.

We also hope to be co-operating more closely with other British teams in ARMA, specifically RKSL as we extend our long standing affiliation and affirm our previously unofficial agreement not to duplicate any work each other create. As was the case in OFP, this should see RKSL taking on the air and naval side of things (as well as the unusual gems that they come out with) whilst we continue with the guts of the land forces. With co-operation and sharing of models, knowledge and wives, this should lead to a very promising future for British addons in ARMA. We have some plans in store, but what this entails will be hammered out at a later date, and I guess you'll have to wait and see.

Until, then, the tools are released, we will be sitting back enjoying some lazy gaming and multiplayer matches with our other affiliates VCB, as we also affirm our close ties with them, and they continue on as our beta testers. Whilst we know it could be a long wait, we are doing everything we can using the old tools and other programs to get as much as a head start as possible. Hopefully then, once the tools are in our hands it will be a very short period till we can start releasing things to the community. There have been questions raised about the possibility of porting our OFP addons across to ARMA for the mean time, and whilst it is indeed possible, we don't feel that they represent the quality of work we are aiming to achieve with ARMA and thus for the vast majority of our addons, we have decided not to do so.

For the next news update (and this time it won't be in 9 months, I assure you) I'll get some screenies sorted for you all of the various stuff we have going. Aren't I nice?

The Site & Forums

We are aware that the site and forums have been running a little slow recently. We are trying everything in our power to rectify the situation, but unfortunately it appears to be a problem on the server end, which we are currently addressing with the hosts. Please be patient while we sort everything out, and do expect the odd few hours of downtime in the future.

UKF NEWS
16th September 2006

So, another month (or so) passes, and UKF are still plodding along with our various projects. We hope you're all still enjoying the last release, and that its given you something to while away the hours, days and months till Armed Assault is released. We're very excited at the prospect of Armed Assault being with us by christmas, and have some very big ambitions for our work with the new engine.

But before I get too carried away, we are of course still working with the Flashpoint engine, and recently the team came to a decision to concentrate its efforts on two main projects that we felt the community would be eagerly anticipating more than others. Whilst I wont reveal the two projects that are being concentrated on just yet, I will report that we have begun our team effort on them in ernest, seeing alot of progress made in the last couple of weeks on both. Hopefully we will be on the beta stage very soon.

In other news, our old friend Tigershark asked us along to do a Radio Check interview, and myself and Chris were dispatched to radio land to answer a few questions (and in my case, rather quietly). We hope you enjoyed listening to our interview as much as we enjoyed trying to get through without laughing. We were quite secretive about saying too much on DPM 2.0 as we're rather keen to keep a fair bit as a suprise, but we did pass on about 10 or so new screenshots for Tigershark to run with the interview, so we hope you enjoyed those too. For all all those who missed the interview, or who havn't a clue what we're on about, here is the site:

Radio Check and we're in Episode 5 (Quicktime required)

We will be posting some more substantial news about projects in the near future, but with our server change we've been quite busy getting new FTPs up and running and other nerdy things like that. We do hope the new site is providing a more reliable service to our members, and that you're all able to use the forums properly now.

Till our next news post, enjoy the podcast and the addons!
